Soviet Tank T-72 M1 in 1/72 scale
Comparison preview of plastic kit T-72M1 by ACE vs. resin kit T-72M1 (PT-91) by Modelkrak The ACE T-72M1 model is very similar to the Ace M-84 model and what is stated for the T-72 should count for their M-84. The M-84 is a Yugoslavian built model of the T-72 with a few variations. It appears the parts for both models are included in either kit we purchase with some parts going unused depending on the kit we have and having different directions. This is similar to the many T-55 variants offered by ACE. Please see ACE's website for photos of all the sprues As observed in the scans the hulls and turrets compare well in size and detail to Modelkrak's T-72M1 resin model kit. While Modelkrak has all the hatches moulded shut, ACE provides open hatches allowing crew members to be added. The T-72 hull & turret with the reactive armor blocks are for the Polish PT-91 model. The kit wheels are very good, much improved moulding than I found in the ACE T-55 wheels. The road wheels match very well with the Modelkrak road wheels. The ACE plastic sprocket and idler wheels are not as well done as Modelkrak's white metal parts which does not surprise me considering that white metal is less delicate. The ACE gun barrel is well done and has more accurate detail than came with my ACE T-55 model gun barrels. Instructions are the exploded view type and appear good, more complete and clearer than Modelkrak's. Water-slide decal markings are included for six vehicles: two Iraqi, one Soviet, East German (1990), Finland, and India. I am always impressed by ACE's selection and variety in markings they offer. Modelkrak offers no markings. Like the ACE T-55 tracks, the T-72/M84 tracks are hard link & length, and are decently detailed on the exterior face but have no link detail on the interior face other than track teeth. I am perplexed why ACE does not add link detail to the interior side |
