Sd.Kfz. 11 HKL in 1/72 scale
This 3-ton rated halftrack is one of the more
important haltrack towing tractors used by the German and Hungarians
during WW2. The vehicle's suspension was the basis for the SdKfz 251
armored personnel carrier. This kit represents one of the late variants
of the artillery towing tractor of 1944-45. Paint colors would be dark
yellow, and
perhaps with a brown and green pattern. An ambush scheme as depicted by
Mr. Greenland looks great but may be historically inaccurate
Name
German Sd. Kfz. 11 HKL Tractor /Kit #72031/
Producer
Modell Trans Modellbau, Essen, Germany
Packing
Sturdy corrugated cardboard box. Parts packed
in plastic bags.
Type of kit
1/72 scale, resin with about 24 parts
Quality
Casting quality is very good with fine detail,
reasonably easy clean-up. Few imperfections were found. Assembly looks
straight forward.
Instruction sheet
The kit instructions consist only of a four view
line drawing of the completed halftrack, rather than a more common
exploded-view drawing showing where all the parts go. The lack of clear
instructions makes this kit not ideal for a beginner or someone not
familiar with this halftrack. A copy of ESCI's SdKfz 11 kit instructions
will help.
Decals
No decals are included. License plate decals
can be borrowed from an ESCI or Hasegawa halftrack kit.
General Impression & Note
The beautiful box art photo will help with
assembly but appears to be a photo of modeler Tony Greenland's 1/35 scale
Azimut model of this vehicle. This is not a nice thing to do. A nice
model that I recommend highly. Appears to be based on ESCI/Italeri's
SdKfz 11 halftrack kit. Wood crates and fuel drum cargo included.
