"Road to Russia"

Scale: 1/72

I tried to depict a moment of rest of some soldiers on their way to Russia, after a moralizing campaign in France. The figures came from Revell German Artillery and are a pleasure to work with, the faces are very good. I started by pouring some plaster over a coffee jar lid and putting a balsa fence and plaster walls on it. Next, I build a small well with cork so I could try the gloss varnish method to simulate water, which didn't end so great. The painting was done with Tamiya paints, sealed with Modelmaster varnish prior to a wash with oils and a nice drybrush. The vegetation is made of black tea and 2 types of Noch ground-cover. The bucket was made out of aluminium foil, the apples were made of Magic Sculp and the box came from academy's 3-in-1 vehicle set. This was a pleasure to build and a nice small addition to my also small collection!
