20mm Flak 30

Kit producer: MAC, 1/72

This kit is made by MAC (I’ve bought it on Model Hobby 2002 exhibition). There’re “moulded tree” of plastic in a box, nice instruction sheet and a sheet of needed PE parts.

Work on flak is quick and easy. Except of two small parts (end of barrel and hooks for fitting gun into undercarriage) is everything made “straight from the box”. Mentioned end of a gun barrel I’ve cut off and made a new one from a part of injection pin (to cut a hard metal from which the pins are made I’m using a classical blade cutter). The former hooks disappeared too, and the new ones were cut from thin plastic sheet. PE parts are glued by cyanoacrylate glue HVP.

Color scheme is (according to instructions) from 19th Pz.Div., Kharkov, 1943. Colors are Humbrol, airbrushed and fixed by glossy varnish Model Master. “Wash” is oil (black-gray) and the whole is fixed again and colors are unified, this way by flat Model Master varnish. Then ”Dry brush”, normal 2B pencil and chalk dust finished the illusion of weathering.

Completed 20 mm Flak 30 is really a dwarf in 1/72 scale (see photo with Humbrol color), but it’s a very nice model…
