Pz.Kpfw. III Ausf.J

Scale:  1/72

Model kit used: My own resin cast, Pz.Kpfw III Ausf.L – Revell, StuG III Ausf.E - Attack

Version Ausf. J was the most frequent version of the tank Pz.Kpfw III. Unfortunately, no producer makes this type and this is why I had to build it as a conversion. The source was a really nice kit Pz.Kpfw III Ausf. L by Revell and the StuG III Ausf. E by Attack. I cut the original tank behind the turret and removed the whole middle part of an engine cover so that I had the mudguards, the rear engine part and the front part. Then I took the StuG III E from which I used the whole middle part of an engine cover, cut the very similar way. Both models are of exactly same dimensions so placing an Attack engine cover into a Revell part worked with no problems. I reduced the size of rear covers of engine cooling and scraped the new ones. I cleaned the connection between two parts of hull and made a welded line. I added a triangular cross-section protecting the bottom part of a turret. This was all for the superstructure of the Ausf. J. I added the visors on the sides of the turret and adapted the original gun mantlet. I armed the tank with a short type of the 5 cm gun KwK 39 L 42. These subassemblies were now moulded and cast in resin. The whole superstructure was easily combined with the chassis by Revell and the details – handles, tow hooks, machine guns, headlights and antenna – were added. I also added parts of the external equipment like tent packs, a jerry can, a box and spare wheels. The camouflage was inspired by a vehicle from the 2. Pz.Div. with a turret number 602 from Russia in 1942 in overall Panzergrau. I used a dark grey enamel Agama, the tank was shaded with oils and dry-brushed on edges and flat areas.
