M4 Sherman
Ambulance
(Medical Evacuation Tank)
– Late type 1/72 scale conversion
The model you can see on pictures below is the model of late type of IDF
armored ambulance based on Sherman chassis developed in 70’. This rare
vehicle has the engine moved in front part of the hull and space to
place four stretchers in. These ambulances started to serve in IDF
during “Yom Kippur” war (1973) and finished active service be
replaced by M113 ambulance (1988).
The model is based on e M4(A3E8) Sherman kit by Hasegawa. First I have build the chassis bottom including wheels /without rear part/. Then I have taken the measures and prepared the drawing necessary for producing of conversion parts. I have mainly used plastic sheets to produce new parts of the hull. The can holder, the stowage on side, the radiator lattices, the lights guards, the fenders atc are produced of metal sheet. The tubes of the smoke grenade launchers are made of cigarette paper. The handrails and the periscope guards are made of thin copper wire. The commander hatch on the hull is only one thing I have used from original kit. The model is airbrushed with mixed light gray-green paint. The patina has been done with dry pastels. The decals have been printed using Laser Jet. Everything is finished with flat varnish. The color difference is caused by using two different cameras taking these pictures. |
