Sturmgeschütz III ausf.F 1/72 Scratchbuilt
The 1/72 scale kit
Sturmgeschutz III G by ESCI has been used as base for conversion to this
model.
I had to make completely new upper part of the hull because the version F has tot of differences. One of the biggest problems of the modeling this kit was I had bought the kit with missing trucks. The Interne has helped me to solve this big problem! I have found the kind modeler from USA who sent me resin copy of the missing tracks. He sent me also more detail info concerning the interior and the engine. The site helped me to meet him is Track-Link (http://www.track-link.net). I have fund some other technical documentation also on the AFV interiors site. I had in my hands also the instruction sheet of 1/35 scale conversion kit by Jaguar. I have made completely new interior and also complete engine all according to collected technical information. Everything is made of plastic sheets by Plus Model and plastic frames of the kits. Complete interior is painted with white color according to the documentation and the patina is realized with the dry pastel, the ink and the oil colors. The hull is also completely new made of plastic sheets according to the drawings published in Stug III publications by Militaria and the HPM magazine. Practically every hatch is open to let look into the interior. The chassis is also modified from schematic chassis included in the kit. I have modified the rollers and the new resin tracks are completed with the guide teeth made of the thin plastic stick. Complete model is airbrushed with European yellow paint /Humbrol H94/. It was really difficult to realize thin green ”snakes” according to the real assault gun. I have tried few methods but the best one I have finally used modeling this model was brushing /brush-00/ of this ”snakes” with green dry pastel. The finish patina is realized with dry pastels and oil color. I’m not friend of dirty models covered with the mud therefor my patina is light only according to photo published in mentioned publication - Panzer Colors III. I have carefully stuck the pre-painted trucks and new fenders with fitted engineer tools (the shovel, the axe, the pincers and the jack atc). The decals for this version are not available therefore I have used some decals from other kits and the numbers are hand-painted. I have also completed the spare wheels and track-links, the cans, the frame on engine deck, the lights, the antenna atc. I have finished this model with final airbrushing with the Humbrol varnish.
