General Impression & Note

This box is a welcomed 1997 re-edition of the AIRFIX ”WW II Italian infantry” that appeared on the market in late Seventies. It was one of the best, and last, AIRFIX releases at that time, before the British firm went bust.

Statistically speaking 15 in 48 infantrymen bear a MAB-38 sub-machine gun, an excellent weapon that was absolutely rare in the 1940-43 period and usually assigned to élite troops only (it was more widespread in 1943-45 at the times of the Repubblica Sociale Italiana; incidentally these miniatures can also be employed as R.S.I. troops). This fact ought to be taken into account ifthese Italian infantrymen are employed for wargame purposes. Other weapons of the set are the Model 91 rifle and the Beretta pistol. No heavy weapons, such as mortars, machine-guns or flame-throwers are supplied in this box differently from other AIRFIX sets.

Excluding ATLANTIC’s miniatures this ex. AIRFIX ”WW II Italian infantry” was the first real attempt to make Italian troops in small scales.
