Culemeyer 80 t
- 1/72 Hauler , CZ
Model contains 56 parts
(out of which 24 wheels) cast from resin and a small fret with photo-etched
parts, all in an excellent quality, which has become tradition with the
products of Hauler. Nevertheless, I have to add that there are all 12
identical parts leaf springs/wheel supports (part no. 4) missing in my
kit, which does not seem to be an accident, it looks like a system failure
in completion of the kits.
Model can be built
in two variants: with a transportation platform for transport of vehicles or
without it there are rails on the top of the trailer for a transport of
wagons then.
None (and none needed)
Excellent
choice of a supplement type of a vehicle for dioramas! These
heavy trailers were used by German Reich Railroads (Deutsche
Reichsbahn) for a transport of railway wagons on roads; the army
used them for a transport of heavy artillery pieces and of
vehicles. History of the trailer is described in the
instructions attached.
I have not
found a drawing of this trailer in any book. For a test, I
placed a model of the Jagdtiger by ESCI on the transportation
platform it is of a practically the same length (without a
barrel) and about 5 mm wider on both sides, which corresponds
with a period photograph in the instructions of the model. It is
interesting to learn that a book German Military Trailers and
Towed Equipment 1935-1945 (by Horst Beiersdorf, Schiffer
Publishing Ltd., 1995) states a loading capacity of this trailer
60 ton and not 80 ton The
trailer Culemeyer is a welcome enrichment of vehicles for
dioramas it will for sure form an impressive combination with
a prime mover Sd.Kfz. 9 FAMO.
