Figures 1/72 Extratech
So I received an eagerly awaited package from Extratech some days ago.
Three sets of their latest items - resin figures in 1/72 - arrived. Let
me say straight away that I placed a lot of hopes in them after my
excellent experience with their AFV models and a couple of figures
included in their FuSE radar kit but what a surprise it was! Let me sort
them one by one now: |
Name | German machine gun crew (EXB 72 003) |
Producer | Extratech, Czech republic |
Packing | Plastic bow with carton cover |
Type of kit | resin kit with photo etched parts |
Decals | not |
Description + Note |
Includes 4 resin figures, each consisting of a marching torso with legs, separate arms, separate head with helmets and four small items each (a bottle, a gas mask, a bayonet and a bread bag). PE fret enclosed: 2 ammo boxes, 1 (only!) MG-42, 4 Kar.98 and 3 field shovels. Sculpting OK, size OK, BUT: the four figures are all the same!!! Of course, you can change position of heads and arms but what is the use of four exactly same walking machine gunners? A sort of a parade? I remember a photo of some German officer standing on a front horizontal armour of a Tiger and soldiers marching in front of him - now get me some more sets to start a dio... Name | German tank crew (EXB 72 004) |
Producer | Extratech, Czech republic |
Packing | Plastic bow with carton cover |
Type of kit | resin kit with photo etched parts |
Decals | not |
Description + Note |
Includes four resin figures (let me number them to make it easier to understand): A - one-piece figure, sitting with legs stretched away, hands in his pockets, field cap (I can imagine him sitting in a popular position over the tank main gun barrel); B - standing figure, separate left arm, right hand in his pocket (vaguely reminds me of a similar buddy by Preiser but only VERY vaguely...) and, oh lo, there are two identical B figures in the set!; C - sitting officer, two separate arms, doubtful position - Feldlatrine maybe... . PE fret includes: 2 MPs with straps, 3 pistols in cases, 1 spoon, 1 head-set, 2 iron crosses (orders) and something that looks like a frying pan but is not mentioned in the instructions. Sculpting of all figures is poor, small heads, very slim (and shady - if you watch MTV), Scarlet O'Hara would envy the wasp waist of the officer... Classification: * * (out of five) |
Name | German tank crew - mechanics (EXB 72 005) |
Producer | Extratech, Czech republic |
Packing | Plastic bow with carton cover |
Type of kit | resin kit with photo etched parts |
Decals | not |
Description + Note |
Again, four resin figures but what a surprise!: our well known guys A and B from the previous set smile at as from the box! Two different kneeling figures with separate arms are attached, however. PE fret includes: a toolbox (sign MATRA on one side - was this a producer of German tools during the WWII?), 9 various wrenches/spanners. Sculpting of the kneeling figures a little bit better then in case of the A & B guys. Classification: * * * (out of five) |
General comments Real disappointment of the ambitious project after a line of EXCELLENT Maybach engines by the same producer. I hate saying this - being a proud Czech patriot - but the figure sets by Extratech are not worth your money as they are priced USD 5.75 each set on a domestic Czech market, which, I can imagine, will be at least 10 bucks overseas.
